Hillary Challenge with Asquith Girls High School

Updated: Sep 22, 2018

Cactii has been around for a while - and back in 2015 when we were just a bunch of engineers and installers with little idea of Social media we sponsored a team of 4 girls from Asquith Girls High School to the prestigious Hillary Challenge. This was the ultimate in Renewable Energy ! Would they make it to Mt Everest ?

Please find a brief re-tell of the adventure. I must say it was an absolute honour to have sponsored and worked with the girls.

The Hillary Challenge, over 5 days is undoubtedly the toughest adventure competition for high school students and the battle for first is intense because it is a prestigious and highly coveted title for schools to achieve. Not only does the event require a high level of physical and mental fitness, being a team sport, members need the ability to work together under stress. Even getting selected for the event after going through the state finals was an achievement for the girls.

Testing out the teamwork. Interestingly enough this was a "scavenge and build challenge"

The national finals were held in the first weekend of October at Camp Jungai near Eildon in Victoria. The multi-sport event included a series of challenges, including rogaining, cycling, kayaking, raft-building and various other tests of skills, creativity and endurance.

Unfortunately this was the year of the Nepal earthquakes. No chance of making it to Mt Everest.
